Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Expands its General Aviation Operations in North America; Enhances Product Offering and Announces Team

Las Vegas, 10 October, 2011 – Swiss Re Corporate Solutions today announced the establishment of several key initiatives to expand its operations in the North American General Aviation (GA) market, the world's largest with over 200,000 aircraft in operation.

The company has established a US-based underwriting team dedicated to developing its GA portfolio throughout the United States. The new team will be based initially in New York City. In an aviation renewal rights deal with RSA/GCAN in April of this year, the company expanded its presence in Canada. In addition, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions has expanded its relationship with Seattle-based London Aviation Underwriters (LAU) to better service the market for smaller GA risks. Lastly, the company has filed new product forms with each state to be able to offer Hull & Liability and CGL cover across the United States on an admitted basis.

"The North American aviation market is an important part of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' insurance growth strategy," said Nikolaj Beck, Head of Specialties for Corporate Solutions. "We believe this expansion and our recent acquisitions enhance our ability to serve our North American-based clients and brokers. We can now offer locally the same innovative GA solutions, expertise and experience our customers around the world have come to know, all backed by the financial strength of the Swiss Re Group."

The Aviation unit of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions offers tailored solutions to aviation clients and provides a full product suite for the industry's segments and needs, including airlines, airports, general aviation, maintenance repair and overhaul, space, Non-damage Business Interruption, multi-year and long-term deals, self-insured retentions, extra expense protection, as well as Property and Casualty coverage.

"By establishing locally-based underwriting teams, we are better positioned to serve and grow the portfolio in the largest GA market in the world," said Wayne Murphy, Head of General Aviation for Corporate Solutions. "We believe that these steps will provide current and prospective clients and brokers in the United States and Canada with easier access to our team of experts, our capacity and our broad product offering."

The General Aviation classification is defined as aircraft with fewer than 60 seats, rotor wing, fixed wing, private business and pleasure, airports and airport-related services, as well as aviation manufacturers.

The underwriting for airlines, defined as scheduled passenger carriage with over 60 seats and major manufacturers (e.g. Boeing, Lockheed Martin, etc.), will remain unchanged and will be serviced and underwritten out of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' Munich office.
